GREENSBORO, N.C. — The University of Notre Dame women’s golf team got a pair of strong showings from its top players Friday at the Bryan National Collegiate at the Bryan Park Golf and Enrichment Center, but in a field filled with 10 other ranked squads, the No. 30 Irish sit in 11th place of 18 with a 21-over-par score of 309 through one round.
Senior captain Ashley Armstrong (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) came out strong after starting slow at last week’s LSU Tiger Classic, this time firing a par 72 to sit in a tie for 10th place to pace Notre Dame. Sophomore Jordan Ferreira (University Place, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) followed close behind with a three-over 75 to tie for 22nd. Both Irish players are within six shots of the lead, held by Wake Forest’s Allison Emrey, who shot a three-under 69.
Of Notre Dame’s 10 ranked opponents, the Irish lead two in No. 40 North Carolina State (310) and No. 45 GRU Augusta (312). The Irish sit just behind No. 35 Florida State (10th, 306) and No. 9 Northwestern (9th, 305). No. 12 Virginia leads the field (297), closely followed by No. 13 Wake Forest (298) and No. 34 Auburn (299).
Junior Talia Campbell (Dallas, Texas/Ursuline Academy) ended the day tied for 38th with a six-over 78. Freshman Kari Bellville (Granger, Ind./Penn) shot an 82 (T-75th), while senior Kelli Oride (Lihue, Hawaii/Kauai) recorded an 85 (T-88th).
Action resumes with an 8:20 a.m. EDT split-tee start Saturday, and will continue with the final round on Sunday.
