GREENSBORO, N.C. — The University of Notre Dame women’s golf team moved up three spots to eighth place following Saturday’s second-round action at the Bryan National Collegiate at the Bryan Park Golf and Enrichment Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. The No. 30 Irish, playing against 10 other ranked opponents in the 18-team field, shot the best team score of the day with an 11-over-par 299 for a two-day total of 608.
Notre Dame was led on the day by the strong play of junior Talia Campbell (Dallas, Texas/Ursuline Academy) as she shot a one-under-par 71 after registering a six-over-par 78 on Friday for a two-day 149 total. Campbell, who stands 10th overall on the leaderboard, played steady throughout the day as she finished with two birdies, a bogey and 15 pars.
Sophomore Jordan Ferreira (University Place, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) leads the Irish following two rounds with a 36-hole total of 148 as she resides in a four-way tie for fifth among the 96 competitors in the event. After finishing with a 75 after the first round, Ferreira returned to the course to shoot a one-over-par 73, recording three birdies and 11 pars.
Ferreira is just four strokes in back of the leader, Briana Mao of Virginia, who has a 144 two-day total.
Atlantic Coast Conference counterparts No. 12 Virginia and No. 13 Wake Forest are tied for first after two rounds with a 599 36-hole total.
Senior captain Ashley Armstrong (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) is tied for 11th following Saturday’s play as she shot a four-over-par 76 on Saturday for a two-day total of 150. Armstrong had three birdies and 10 pars on the day. After starting the day on the back nine with two birdies and six pars, Armstrong was slowed on the final nine with a triple-bogey on the first hole.
Heading into Sunday’s final 18 holes, Notre Dame’s two-day 608 total is better than five other ranked opponents in the field. The Irish are ahead of No. 9 Northwestern (612), No. 19 Florida (613), No. 41 Louisville (615), No. 40 North Carolina State (615) and No. 45 GRU Augusta (630). The Irish are just two shots behind No. 18 Vanderbilt (606) and No. 35 (Florida State).
Senior Kelli Oride (Lihue, Hawaii/Kauai) and freshman Kari Bellville (Granger, Ind./Penn) are both tied for 80th with a 164 two-day total.
Final round action resumes on Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. (EDT) shotgun start. Live scoring will be available on the Golfstat web site (www.golfstat.com).
