NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Jordan Ferreira, one of the top junior golfers in the country, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Notre Dame, it was announced today by women’s golf coach Susan Holt. Ferreira will begin her career for the Fighting Irish in the fall of 2013.
“We are really excited to have Jordan join our golf family,” Holt says. “She has been on our radar for three years and it is great that she finally has the opportunity to sign her National Letter of Intent. She is a very committed student and will thrive in the academic and athletic environment that we have here at Notre Dame. Her golf game has been on a steady climb up the rankings and I know her best golf is yet to come.”
Ferreira is currently in her senior year at Bellarmine Preparatory School and has guided the Lady Lions to three Narrow League championships (2010-2012) and three Washington 4A state crowns (2010-12). In each of the last two state championships (2011 and ’12), she was runner-up for medalist honors and finished third in ’10 during her freshman season.
Among players in the class of 2013, Ferreira is ranked No. 24 by the Junior Golf Scoreboard, No. 30 by Golfweek and No. 47 by American Junior Golf Association.
In May ’12, Ferreira, a two-time Washington State Golf Association Girls Player of the Year, posted her best finish in a 36-hole tournament with an even-par-144 (73-71). She earned the honor after tying seventh or better in all five AJGA starts in `11 and racked up seven top-three finishes through 10 tournaments played during the ’12 season. Ferreira also grabbed attention after cracking the top 10 at the ’12 AJGA Coca-Cola Junior Championship at the Heather Course in Harbor Springs, Mich., tying for eighth with a 12-over-par 228 (77-73-78).
In addition she was named to the HP Scholastic All-American Team in `12 and holds a 3.95 GPA through three years at Bellarmine.
Ferreira participated in the 111th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship in ’11 at The Country Club (par-71) in Cleveland, Ohio. She finished 119th with a 14-over-par 156 and fired even on the Par 5’s. Ferreira qualified for the event after firing a 72-even-par at the Oakbrook Golf & Country Club in Lakewood, Wash.
Ferreira was a medalist in August ’12 at the 57th Pacific Northwest Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship. She also had notable finishes during the ’12 season placing second at the Juniors World Qualifier (71-74-145), second at the WJGA State Championship (76-78-75-229) and third at USGA Girls Junior Amateur Championship (74-72-146).
“Jordan (Ferreira) is a great addition to an already successful program,” says head coach Susan Holt. “She will add depth to our roster and it will be very competitive moving forward to make the travel team. I look for the entire team to benefit from being challenged on a daily basis to earn their spot in the top five of the lineup.”
