TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team came together for the first time this season, completing the first day of competition at the Crimson Tide Four in the Fall at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium.
In matches against Columbia, the Irish won three singles matches and two doubles contests, while the Lions claimed six singles and three doubles wins.
Senior standout and fifth-ranked Quentin Monaghan picked up his first singles win of the fall with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Shawn Hadavi, and was joined in the win column by Eric Schnurrenberger (7-6, 6-4 over Eric Rubin) and Drew Dawson (6-3, 3-6, 7-6(8) over Daniel Grunberger).
In doubles, Alex Lawson and Grayson Broadus defeated Mike Vermeer and Victor Pham (COL), 6-4, and Brendon Kempin and Nathan Griffin upended Michal Rolski and Jack Turchetta 6-5(2).
The Irish will return action for Day Two of the three-day tournament on Saturday.
