URBANA, Ill. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team came up just shy of the second doubles championship of the day for the Fighting Irish at the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional Championships at the Atkins Tennis Center at the University of Illinois on Monday.
The 28th-ranked doubles pairing of Quinn Gleason and Monica Robinson started the day in the championship match, but were edged out by Michigan’s Emina Bektas and Alex Najarian who took the crown, 8-7 (7-6).
Robinson went on to win her quarterfinal singles matchup over DePaul’s Ana Vladutu, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, but fell to No. 21 Ronit Yurovksy, 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinal round.
The Fighting Irish will get three weeks off before resuming the indoor season at the Lakewood Ranch and Western Michigan invitationals on November 7.
