SOUTH BEND, Ind. — University of Notre Dame left-handed pitcher Jack Findlay was named a Freshman All-American, Collegiate Baseball announced Wednesday morning. He is the first freshman All-American for the Irish since Jack Brannigan in 2020.
“Findlay has been so unselfish as he performed in virtually every role possible as a pitcher,” said head coach Link Jarrett. “To handle that as a freshman is really exceptional. I was just named coach at Notre Dame and Jack was in the camp that was going on. I will always remember thinking as I watched him pitch that this will be the first player I end up landing at Notre Dame. He is a poised competitor with a tremendous future and we are proud of his well deserved award.”
Findlay has burst onto the scene in his first collegiate season and been one of the most reliable arms for the Irish. He has a 5-2 record with two saves and a 2.11 ERA over 38.1 innings. He has made 16 appearances and eight starts with 44 strikeouts and just 12 walks.
Two of his most important appearances this season have come in the postseason during the Statesboro Regional.
Against #21 Georgia Southern holding a two-run lead, Findlay came on from the pen with runners at the corners and no outs. He struck out two in the eighth and forced a ground out to end the inning and keep the Irish in the lead. He set the Eagles down in order to collect his first career save and send the Irish to the Regional Final.
In the Regional Final against #24 Texas Tech, Findlay came out with the bases loaded and two outs in a one-run game. He did not waste any time and got a three-pitch strikeout to end the inning. In the ninth, the Red Raiders had the bases loaded again and Findlay got a ground out to close out the game and send the Irish back to the Super Regionals.
Findlay and the Irish will be back in action this weekend as they take on #1 Tennessee in the Knoxville Super Regional. The first game of the regional is set for 6 p.m. ET on Friday and will be aired on ESPN2.
