Jim Fraleigh Excited For The Future As New Executive Director Of The Notre Dame Monogram Club

Dec. 26, 2004

Assistant athletic director Jim Fraleigh – a former Notre Dame student manager and currently in his 15th year as a member of the athletic department staff – now holds a primary role within the department as executive director of the Notre Dame Monogram Club.

Fraleigh shifted into his new role after associate athletic director Bill Scholl assumed new responsibilities, brought about by former senior associate athletic director Jim Phillips being named athletic director at Northern Illinois. Scholl had served as the Monogram Club’s executive director since May of 2002.

Fraleigh spent the previous three years as assistant athletic director for community relations and ticket operations – after one year as assistant athletic director for ticketing and marketing, the previous three years as director of ticketing and marketing and five years as ND’s manager of sports marketing.

He previously had directed the athletic department’s ticketing and parking functions while assisting in the development and maintenance of corporate and community relationships, overseeing the department’s courtesy car program and serving as the administrator for the women’s golf program. He also has represented Notre Dame on the Executive Committee of the Sports Management Institute.

Fraleigh, an ’88 Notre Dame graduate with a degree in accounting, returned to his alma mater in ’90 to spend a year as an assistant in the sports marketing and ticket offices. He later was events manager of the Joyce Center – directing summer camps and financial aspects of the Varsity Shop – and in 1991 was named sports marketing manager, where he was responsible for marketing activities that included the coordination of promotions and game presentations for all varsity sports.

Prior to returning to Notre Dame, the Vernon, Conn., native spent two years with Coopers & Lybrand in Hartford, Conn., as both a staff accountant and a human resource specialist. He and his wide Jody have three sons, Brendan, Casey and Riley.

Fraleigh recently provided the following comments to the Monogram Club membership:

“Fellow Monogram Club Members,

“As a Monogram Club member, I was thrilled with the opportunity to become more involved with leadership of this great organization. During my time in the athletic department, I’ve had the good fortune to get to know many members of the Club and most of the board members. I have been extremely impressed with their dedications as they serve this unique organization.

“There are many great Monogram Club projects currently afoot and I look forward to becoming involved with each of them. I am most excited to work with so many current and former student-athletes. Notre Dame has such a rich athletic history and I am confident the current student-athletes will continue to represent Notre Dame in a first-class manner, on and off the fields of play.

“Similar to our athletic programs, we aspire to be the best letterwinners association in the country – one that is looked upon as a leader in our industry and among our peers.

“I have been fortunate to have worked under three different athletic directors at Notre Dame (Dick Rosenthal, Mike Wadsworth and Kevin White). Each brought a different management style to their job and all three have influenced me in different ways. As a result, I have been exposed to different leadership techniques that have helped mold my own style of leadership.

“As a student manager, I learned very early what it takes to be successful in college athletics. Some coaches and administrators at Notre Dame influenced me in extremely positive ways and helped me learn how important dedication, commitment and passion can be in one’s job. It is that same level of commitment and passion that I want to bring to my new role with the Monogram Club.

“The years at Notre Dame have humbled me in many ways. As a new employee so long ago, I came in thinking I knew a lot about college athletics. Little did I know how much I had to learn. The last 15 years have provided a great foundation and I look forward to bringing those experiences to my new position, understanding there is so much for me to learn about the Monogram Club and all that it offers. I look forward to the challenge and in learning something new every day.”
