Kate Markgraf (’98, soccer) officially became the 71st president of the Monogram Club during the Club’s spring meeting. Markgraf succeeded Don Casey (’82, ’83, swimming) in that role. Markgraf will serve a two-year term as president, while Casey will hold the title of past president for two years.
Markgraf graduated from Notre Dame in 1998 after a stellar four-year career with the women’s soccer team, which included winning the program’s first national championship in 1995. Following graduation, she embarked on a stellar professional and international soccer career. Markgraf was a member of Team USA’s historic 1999 World Cup title. She appeared in two additional World Cups (2003, 2007) with the USWNT. Markgraf also played major roles for Team USA in three Olympic Games, winning gold medals in 2004 and 2008, and a silver medal in 2000. In August 2019, the USWNT named Markgraf as its first-ever general manager.
Markgraf also has extensive broadcasting experience. During her time at ESPN, she worked as an analyst for both the men’s and women’s World Cup, along with serving as a studio analyst. She was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. Markgraf and her husband, Chris, have three children.
