BRYAN, Texas – Senior co-captain Katie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) carded a two-over par 74 during Saturday’s second round of play at the `Mo’ Morial at the par 72, 6,307-yard Traditions Club. Her two-round total of 153 (+9) places her in a tie for 10th heading into Sunday’s third and final round. As a team, Notre Dame shot a 329 (+41) on the day and is 17th overall with a 663 total.
Arkansas entered play on Saturday one shot behind Texas A&M, yet the Razorbacks posted a tournament-low 301 (+13) on Saturday and sit two shots ahead of the host Aggies going into the final 18 holes of play. SMU is a distant third among the 18-team field with a 626 total.
Even though her team slipped from the top spot on Saturday, Texas A&M’s Ashley Knoll went from second to first among individuals with a second round score of 70, a tournament-low. She has an even-par total of 144, which is two shots ahead of first-round leader Jullianne Kim of UTEP and Kristina Rothengatter of SMU.
Brophy is nine shots off the pace after carding her best round over the past four tournaments. She will be gunning for her third top-10 finish of the 2005-06 season on Sunday.
Junior Noriko Nakazaki (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) matched her first round score of 82 with an identical tally today and resides in a tie at 52nd. Senior Lauren Gebauer (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) has a 173 (86-87) total and is in a tie for 84th, while her freshman teammate Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Parkside Collegiate Institute) shot an 87 for the second straight round and is tied for 86th. Suzie Hayes (Dublin, Ireland/Loreto College), a senior co-captain, knocked five shots off of her first round score with an 86 today and is 91st overall.
