ROGERS, Ark. – Notre Dame senior Katie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) carded a one-under par 71 and is in a three-way tie for second following the first round of play at the Tyson/Embassy Suites Invitational. As a team, the Fighting Irish carded an 11-over par 299 to currently reside in third place out of the 16-team field at the par 72, 6,013-yard Pinnacle Country Club course. That score marked the fourth straight round in which Notre Dame has shot below 300.
Arkansas, the host school for this event, leads the tournament with a three-over par 291. The Razorbacks are ranked third nationally according to Golfstat.com. Nebraska is seven shots in back with a 298 and the Fighting Irish are on their heels with a 299. Augusta State and Kansas round out the top-five as both teams are tied for fourth with identical 303 scores. Kansas’ Amanda Costner leads all individuals after posting a two-under par 70.
Notre Dame sophomore Jane Lee (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Peninsula) and junior Noriko Nakazaki (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) each shot a three-over par 75 and are part of an eight-way tie for 15th. Senior Lauren Gebauer (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) carded a six-over par 78, while freshman Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Parkside Collegiate Institute) is two shots behind her Irish teammate with an 80 to currently place in ties for 40th and 60th, respectively.
Senior Suzie Hayes (Dublin, Ireland/Loreto College) is playing as an individual entrant for the Fighting Irish and registered a nine-over 81 and is tied for 67th overall.
