Kavadas Named ACC Player of the Week

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Monday that Irish freshman infielder Niko Kavadas was named ACC Player of the Week. Kavadas’ performance led Notre Dame to a non-conference victory against Western Michigan and a series win over Pittsburgh.

A Granger, Ind., native, Kavadas batted .667 (8-12) with four walks, two home runs, seven runs scored and five RBI over the past week. In this week’s four games, Kavadas posted a .765 on-base percentage.

Kavadas went 3-for-3 in Notre Dame’s 14-4 victory over Western Michigan, and his solo shot in the sixth inning versus Pittsburgh on Friday broke a 4-4 tie and put the Irish ahead for good. Kavadas followed that up with a 4-for-4 performance in Saturday’s 7-5 win.

Kavadas owns a 10-game on-base streak and has recorded at least one hit in eight of those contests, helping the Irish win eight of their last 10 games.

The honor marks the first of Kavadas’ young career and the second of the season for the Irish baseball squad.

Notre Dame has a week off before traveling to Northwestern for a midweek matchup at 4:30 p.m. ET on May 15.
