Sophomore forward Kellie Watson and her Irish teammates got in an extended shopping trip and saw the sights in Florence on Friday before turning their attention to Saturday's tour finale against Athena Basket in Rome.

Kellie Watson Diary Entry From Europe - Day 7

May 15, 2009

Editor’s note: During the Notre Dame women’s basketball team’s 10-day foreign tour of Europe, sophomore forward Kellie Watson is filing a daily diary with Michael Rothstein of the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette. Following are Watson’s thoughts on the trip with a link to her entry also available on the Journal-Gazette’s web site.

We left Lake Como at around 9 o’clock this morning. It was the beginning of a six-hour bus ride to Florence. We all fell asleep very quickly, and I didn’t wake up until lunch four hours later. We arrived in Florence in the early afternoon and headed right out to take a walking tour of the city, and the Cathedral in the heart of the city. We walked around town for about an hour and then broke off to shop in the markets. A lot of us bartered our way into great deals on leather bags and purses, scarves, soccer jerseys, and little souvenir items. Florence definitely killed our wallets!

Our night is scheduled for a team dinner in downtown Florence, and we are so excited to eat some real Italian food! It will surely be the food highlight of the tour.

We are also very excited for our final game of our trip tomorrow! We have had great experiences with each of the first two teams and I’m sure this one will be no different! Our game is in Rome, so we will be leaving here on a four- hour bus ride at around noon tomorrow to ensure we have some time to relax in our hotel before our game.

I’m sorry this blog isn’t as long as the last ones, but today was really a travel and relax day for us. I will have a lot more tomorrow about Rome and our game!

GO IRISH!!!
