SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Notre Dame graduate student Liatu King was named to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Katrina McClain Award Top 10 on Thursday. The honor is given to the nation’s top power forward.
King has been the glue holding the Irish together down low this season, especially given the injuries to Liza Karlen and Maddy Westbeld.
One of just two players in the nation averaging at least 10 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals and a block per game, King is posting 10.9 rebounds (T-second in the ACC) and 12.4 points per game. She is shooting 57.6 percent from the floor, which leads the conference and ranks 23rd nationally.
The Washington, D.C. native and last year’s ACC Most Improved Player has a team-leading nine double-doubles and has posted double-digit rebounds in 16 of 20 games played this season. Additionally, King reached 100 rebounds in just nine games, the fastest Irish player to reach 100 rebounds in program history. She has 217 boards already this year.
King and the Irish (19-2, 10-0) are back in action on Thursday night as they host Stanford (11-10, 3-7) at Purcell Pavilion. The game airs on ESPN at 8:30 p.m.
