SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Big Ten Conference announced its postseason hockey awards Tuesday, following the conclusion of Saturday’s semifinal matchups. The list of honorees feature two Irish representatives as the University of Notre Dame’s leading scorer Cole Knuble was tabbed to the All-Big Ten Second Team while Tyler Carpenter was awarded the conference Sportsmanship Award. The 2024-25 season saw the Irish advance to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2022.
In his sophomore campaign, Knuble led the team in points with 39 while also registering the most assists among all Irish skaters as he posted 27 helpers over 34 games played. He finished the season ranking fifth in the Big Ten in points and averaging 1.15 points per game. Averaging over a point per game, his 1.15 mark ranked fourth in the Jeff Jackson era and was the sixth-best average since 1992. His 27 assists on the year was second-best in the conference and had him ranked eighth nationally in assists per game. The Grand Rapids, Michigan native was also nominated for the 2025 Hobey Baker Memorial Award.
An alternate captain for the 2024-25 season, Tyler Carpenter’s impact on the team could be felt both on and off the ice. The senior out of Palatine, Illinois, was named a recipient of the Big Ten’s Sportsmanship Award for his efforts both within the program, and the greater South Bend community. On the ice, Carpenter spent part of the season serving as one of the team’s best centers, winning 38 faceoffs while being one of the least penalized skaters, taking zero penalties through 38 games played. Away from the rink, he was heavily involved with the community, helping organize charitable outings for the team as well as assisting in making honorary team member Rudy Chapman more involved, both at home games and on the road.
