Lauren Bohaboy Named ACC Women's Soccer Co-Player Of The Week

Oct. 28, 2014

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Two game-winning goals during the University of Notre Dame women’s soccer team’s final regular season homestand, including a victory over No. 20 Clemson, by senior forward Lauren Bohaboy (Mission Viejo, California/Santa Margarita) helped the Fighting Irish clinch their second straight bid into the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. The conference recognized Bohaboy’s achievements by naming her co-ACC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Bohaboy became the fourth Notre Dame player to be tabbed as the conference’s top weekly performer since the program joined the ACC in 2013, and the second this season, joining sophomore goalkeeper Kaela Little (Tulsa, Oklahoma/Bishop Kelley) during the week of Sept. 30. The Fighting Irish striker shared the weekly league honor with Florida State standout Dagny Brynjarsdottir.

Bohaboy was also named the College Sports Madness ACC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday, joining Little (Sept. 30) as Notre Dame recipients of that citation this season.

“I am honored to receive this award,” Bohaboy said. “I would like to thank the ACC for recognizing my achievements this week. This award is a reflection of our entire team’s effort and hard work.”

Bohaboy kicked the weekend into gear last Thursday in a primetime home showdown against No. 20 Clemson, shoveling a loose ball at the left post into the short side of the net at 26:06 for the match-winning tally in a 1-0 win for No. 9/7 Notre Dame. Bohaboy’s goal was ultimately her only shot attempt of the contest.

Bohaboy continued her recent offensive momentum on Senior Day against Louisville Sunday at Alumni Stadium, scoring her fourth goal during Notre Dame’s current five-match winning streak. Sophomore forward Kaleigh Olmsted (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) served a perfect left-footed cross from the right wing to a wide open Bohaboy, who headed her second straight game-winner into net at 8:10 to lead Notre Dame to its second straight 1-0 victory.

Through 17 matches (15 starts) this season, Bohaboy paces all Fighting Irish players with seven goals, extending her active Notre Dame career goals (27) and points (67) lead with seven points in her last five matches. Bohaboy’s three game-winning goals in 2014 are also a team-high.

The Fighting Irish forward has now scored six or more goals in each of her four seasons at Notre Dame, after finishing both the 2012 and 2013 campaigns with seven goals. Her 11 career match-winning goals are also the most among all active Fighting Irish players.

Junior defender/tri-captain Katie Naughton (Elk Grove Village, Illinois/Elk Grove) joined Bohaboy as a weekly award winner on Tuesday, earning her second TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week honor of 2014. Naughton anchored the Notre Dame defense in its two shutouts last weekend, extending the program’s current shutout streak to an impressive 450 minutes dating back to an Oct. 5 match against No. 4/5 Virginia.

Notre Dame closes its 2014 regular season schedule on Saturday at 7 p.m. (ET) in an ACC contest against Boston College at the Newton Soccer Field in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
