Notre Dame, Ind. – Three Notre Dame women’s lacrosse players have been named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) academic honor roll for the 2004 season. Lauren Fischer (Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.), Mia Novic (Sr., Murrysville, Pa.) and Lindsay Shaffer (Jr., Seneca Falls, N.Y.) are among the 123 Division I women’s lacrosse players with 3.5 grade-point averages or better to be honored by the coaches’ association.
As a team, the Irish were also among 22 Division I women’s lacrosse programs to take IWLCA all-academic squad honors as teams with a 3.0 grade-point average or better for the year. The Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team had a 3.192 grade-point average for the 2003-04 school year.
Fischer is a two-time selection to the honor roll after being chosen in 2003. She was selected this year with a 3.84 grade-point average and graduated with a degree in art history from Notre Dame in May. She was selected to the Dean’s List in seven of her eight semesters at Notre Dame and was received the school’s Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley’s Rockne Scholar Athlete after her senior year. On the field, Fisher was third on the team in scoring with career highs in goals (28), assists (13) and points (41). She was a second team all-BIG EAST selection and recorded three monograms during her Irish playing career. In four seasons, three as a starter on attack, the Pittsburgh native played in 52 games with 64 goals and 21 assists for 85 career points.
Mia Novic was named to the Dean’s List in all eight of her semesters at Notre Dame.

Novic is a first-time selection to the honor roll as she finished her career with a 3.71 grade-point average and graduated with dual degrees in design and marketing. She was named to the Dean’s List in all eight of her semesters at Notre Dame. As a senior, Novic played in seven games and had a goal and two assists for three points. A member of two NCAA tournament teams during her career, the former Franklin Regional standout played in 14 games with two goals and two assists for four points.
Junior Lindsay Shaffer was named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll for the first time in her Notre Dame career. The midfielder had a 3.64 grade-point average as a pre-professional major in the College of Arts and Letters.

She owns a 3.64 grade-point average for her first three years at Notre Dame as a pre-professional major in the College of Arts and Letters. The junior midfielder played in 15 games this year, making five starts. She recorded 15 ground balls, caused nine turnovers and had six draw controls.
On the season, Notre Dame made its second NCAA appearance in the last three years, dropping a 10-8 decision in the opening round at Northwestern. For the year, the Irish were 12-5 overall and 4-2 in the BIG EAST, good for second place. Notre Dame finished the year ranked ninth in the nation in the final IWLCA coaches’ poll.
