Tony Roberts, the voice of Notre Dame football on the radio for 26 years, passed away late last week at the age of 94.
A National Radio Hall of Fame selection and recipient of the College Football Hall of Fame Chris Schenkel Award, Roberts was the play-by-play announcer from 1980 through 2006 for the Fighting Irish football team. While best known for his legendary calls of memorable Notre Dame moments, Roberts 49-year career included covering the Olympics, the British Open, the National Football League and the United States Naval Academy football team.

Roberts also was a daily presence on Westwood One’s America In The Morning program, anchoring their sports coverage. In his time at Notre Dame, he was joined in the booth by Al Wester, Pat Sheridan, Luther Bradley, Tom Pagna and Allen Pinkett.
Roberts was featured in the Notre Dame Game Day Magazine in 2016 upon his induction into the National Radio Hall of Fame.
