Notre Dame, Ind. – Two members of the Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team have been named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) academic honor roll for the 2005 campaign. Seniors Lindsay Shaffer (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) and Bridget Higgins (Wilton, Conn.) are among the 152 Division I women’s lacrosse players with 3.5 grade-point averages or better to be honored by the coaches’ association. For Shaffer, this is her second time to be named to the Academic Honor Roll, as she was a 2004 selection.
As a team, the Irish were also among 34 Division I women’s lacrosse programs to take IWLCA all-academic squad honors as teams with a 3.0 grade-point average or better for the second semester of the 2004-05 academic year. The Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team had a 3.33 grade point average for the spring semester.
Shaffer, a two-time selection to the honor roll was a team co-captain in 2005. She was selected to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll with a 3.616 grade point average and graduated from Notre Dame in May with a degrees in psychology and arts and letters pre-professional. Shaffer was selected to the Dean’s List in seven of her eight semesters at Notre Dame and received the school’s Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley’s Rockne Scholar Athlete Award after her senior year. On the field, the Seneca Falls, N.Y., native was a two-time monogram winner after walking on to the team as a freshman and working her way into the starting lineup as a junior. This season, the starting midfielder recorded a career-high seven goals with one assist for eight points. She grabbed 20 ground balls and finished tied for second on the team with 15 caused turnovers and added seven draw controls.

Higgins is a first-time selection to the honor roll as she turned in a 3.610 grade point average in her first year of graduate school as she works toward a Masters degree in psychology. A fifth-year player, Higgins graduated from Notre Dame in May of 2004 with degrees in sociology and film, television and theatre. A three-time Dean’s List student as an undergraduate, Higgins was a three-time monogram winner for the Irish, starting 28 games over the last two seasons on the Notre Dame defense. A member of two NCAA tournament teams during her career, Higgins had eight ground balls, one draw control and six caused turnovers during 2005.
