SOUTH BEND, Ind. —The Fighting Irish are on the road for the Long Beach State Tournament in Long Beach, California this weekend. The 1-2 Irish meet Boise State on Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. PT (10 p.m. ET) before taking on Long Beach State on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. PT (10 p.m. ET).

SETTING THE STAGE
• Notre Dame travels to Long Beach, California for their first road trip of the year as they take on Boise State on Friday, Sept. 2, and Long Beach State on Saturday, Sept. 3.
• Saturday’s match against Long Beach State will be streamed live on ESPN+.
HISTORY VS. BOISE STATE
• Friday will be the first ever meeting between the Irish and the Broncos.
• The Broncos are coming off of two wins over Saint Mary’s last weekend where they defeated the Gaels 3-0 on Friday, Aug. 26, and 3-1 on Saturday, Aug. 27.
HISTORY VS. LONG BEACH STATE
• This will be the eighth matchup in program history between the Irish and the Beach, with Long Beach leading the series 6-1.
• Long Beach has won the last two matchups, with the last matchup being in November of 2010.
• The only Notre Dame victory over Long Beach was back in November of 2004 where the Irish defeated Long Beach State in five sets (30-28, 22-30, 25-30, 30-22, 16-14).
LAST WEEKEND’S IRISH INVITATIONAL
• The Irish finished 1-2 in the Irish Invitational in the opening weekend of the 2022 season as they fell in four sets on Friday to Texas Tech, three sets on Saturday to Mississippi State, and came out with their first win of the season on Sunday against Milwaukee.
• Coach Salima Rockwell captured her first win at Notre Dame in a Sunday’s five set victory over Milwaukee.
• Freshmen Avery Ross and Lucy Trump are leading the Irish with 40 kills and 32 kills respectively so far this season.
• Ross recorded 13 kills in her freshman debut and tallied a career-high 18 kills in Sunday’s win over Milwaukee. She’s averaging 3.3 kills per set so far this season.
• Trump posted an impressive 23 kills on Sunday with a .300 hitting percentage and also tallied 17 digs in the win.
• Sophomore setter Phyona Schrader was able to record a triple-double in today’s win, which is the first triple-double since Rebbeca Nunge did it against Lousiville on Nov. 9, 2016. Schrader finished today with 11 kills, 13 digs, and 33 assists.
• Junior Hattie Monson finished the weekend with 60 digs, while 24 of those came from Sunday’s five set win. Monson is averaging five digs a set so far this season.
• Freshman setter Harmony Sample finished the weekend with 48 assists and recorded a career-high 27 assists against Milwaukee.
