FORT MYERS, Florida — On a day Jay Louderback faced one of his greatest Irish products in Minnesota head coach Catrina Thompson, the Notre Dame women’s tennis coach collected his 700th collegiate women’s victory before adding No. 701 later in the day.
The Irish started the day with a 6-1 victory over Thompson’s Golden Gophers, before finishing action with a victory by an identical score against Florida Gulf Coast.
Louderback, the Notre Dame head coach since the fall of 1989, is now 701-391 as a women’s coach. He owns a 746-422 overall collegiate record (men’s and women’s), as well as a 542-246 mark at Notre Dame.

How It Happened
The Irish quickly took the doubles point, as Rachel Chong and Bess Waldram won, 6-2, on court three, before Brooke Broda and Allison Miller took a 6-2 win on court one. Cameron Corse and Zoe Spence led, 5-3, in an unfinished match on court two.
Corse (6-1, 6-3) and Ally Bojczuk (6-2, 6-1) quickly put the Irish on the verge of victory with wins at three and six, respectively. Louderback’s 700th win was clinched on court four when Spence recorded a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision over Minnesota’s Barbara Mancera.
Miller and Broda then ran the score to 6-0 with wins on courts two and one before Caitlyn Merzbacher recorded the only point of the match for Minnesota with a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 win over Notre Dame’s Rachel Chong on court five.

How It Happened
The Irish came back in the afternoon to record victory No. 701 for their head coach. The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point. Broda and Miller scored a 6-4 win on court one before FGCU won 7-5 decisions on both courts two and three to take the early lead.
Notre Dame came storming back, starting with Bojczuk’s 6-1, 6-1 win over Sofia Perez on court six to tie the match. Corse gave the Irish a 2-1 lead, winning 6-2, 6-2, on court three, before the lead went to 3-1 with Miller’s 6-2, 6-2 win on court two.
The clinching point came on court five, where Chong rebounded nicely with a 6-4, 6-0 decision over Patricia Villar. The 6-1 margin came by virtue of Spence’s victory on court four (4-6, 6-4, 10-5) and Broda’s court one win (2-6, 6-4, 10-6).

The wins over the Golden Gophers and Eagles represented Notre Dame’s final non-conference matches of the regular season. The Irish dive into ACC play full time on Friday, March 16, when Virginia Tech visits the Eck Tennis Pavilion for a Noon match. Notre Dame then plays host to Virginia at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 18.
