Marta Sniezek Transfers to Notre Dame

Fifth-year transfer eligible to play for the 2019-20 season

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s basketball team received another boost to the 2019-20 roster this week in the addition of fifth-year transfer Marta Sniezek.

The 5-8 guard out of McLean, Virginia, transfers in from Stanford and will be eligible to play right away. A two-time Pac-12 All-Defensive Honorable Mention player, Sniezek played in 108 games for The Cardinal, including 50 starts.

A Pac-12 All-Freshmen Team nod for the 2015-16 season, Sniezek became the eighth Stanford freshman to reach 100 assists (109) and the fourth to do so in the past two decades. Sniezek had 13 assists and zero turnovers against Washington in the Pac-12 Tournament which tied for third in program history. In addition, Sniezek ramped up her production in the NCAA Tournament, where she averaged 7.3 points and 5.3 assists over four games.

Playing in all 38 games in her sophomore campaign, she averaged 4.5 points and 4.4 assists. Sniezek boasted a 2.68 assist-to-turnover ratio from Feb. 1 to the end of the season, which ranked 12th nationally. She averaged 5.6 assists in the Big Dance and posted eight assists and no turnovers in Stanford’s Elite Eight win over Notre Dame.

As a junior for the 2017-18 season, Sniezek averaged 5.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, while shooting 35.9 percent from the field. Sniezek scored in double figures six times, including a career high 13 points twice. The Virginia native averaged 6.3 points and 4.3 assists in three NCAA Tournament games.

Before arriving to Stanford, Sniezek graduated from National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C., where she earned the following accolades in 2015: Parade All-American, McDonald’s All-America nominee, WBCA All-America, USA Today D.C. Player of the Year and the Washington D.C. Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year.

Sniezek will be the fourth Irish newcomer to join the six returning scholarship student-athletes, joining fellow transfer Destinee Walker along with incoming freshmen Samantha Brunelle and Anaya Peoples.
