COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore Samantha Maxwell broke her own school record in the 100 Breast during day-two action Saturday in the Ohio State Invitational at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Maxwell (1:01.57) was second in the event to claim an NCAA B-cut time – one of two recorded by the Irish on the day. She held the previous Notre Dame record (1:01.68) which was notched during the 2008 BIG EAST Conference Championships.
In the overall team standings, Notre Dame is third with 354 points. They trail Minnesota (863) and Penn State (572.)

200 Medley Relay: The tandem of Colleen Fotsch, Maxwell, Kellyn Kuhlke and Amywren Miller swam under the previous pool record with a time of 1:40.92, also an NCAA B-cut performance … they were second behind Minnesota’s 1:39.13 … the previous pool record was 1:41.26, set by the Gophers last season … Notre Dame’s time was just above the school record mark in the event (1:40.84).
400 Individual Medley: Megan Farrell represented the Irish with a seventh-place finish in 4:22.28 … Ashlee Edgell clocked in at 4:24.79 during the finals.
100 Fly: Kuhlke was third overall in the finals (54.81) after a 55.49 in the morning.
200 Free: Farrell was 12th with a 1:50.94 in the finals, while Amy Prestinario stopped in with a 1:50.63.
100 Breast: Maxwell (1:01.57) was second behind Minnesota’s Jillian Tyler (58.80) while setting a school record … Maxwell’s time was an NCAA B-cut … she went 1:01.68 during last season’s BIG EAST Championships.
100 Back: Maggie Behrens was impressive with times of 55.87 and 55.61 … she was third … Fotsch’s fastest time came in the prelims (55.99).
800 Free Relay: Christa Riggins, Farrell, Lauren Sylvester and Prestinario went the distance in 7:28.15 … they were fifth overall.
1-meter Diving: Heidi Grossman’s 255.95 point total was 11th-best overall.
