Notre Dame, Ind. —- Sophomore defender Andreas Forstner (Gerlinden, Germany) and freshman midfielder Justin Detter (White Lake, Mich.) were selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association to the All-Great Lakes Region third team, marking the fifth consecutive year a Notre Dame men’s soccer player has been named to the all-regional squad.
Forstner, a two-year starter, helped the Irish to six shutouts in 17 games this season as Notre Dame finished with a 1.19 goals against average as a team and .747 save percentage. One of two players to start all 17 games, he also dished off two assists during the 2000 campaign.
Detter, a starter in 16 of 17 games, was Notre Dame’s third-leading scorer with four goals and an assist (nine points). He also was named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team along with teammate Chad Riley Chad Riley (Houston, Texas). His four goals tied him for team-high goal-scoring honors with sophomore Erich Braun (Frankfurt, Germany) and senior Connor LaRose (Claremont, Calif.). Detter led the Irish with three game-winning goals and had the first multiple-goal of his career when he netted both of Notre Dame’s goals in a 2-1 victory over Northwestern.
Notre Dame finished the season with a 7-8-2 mark overall and 4-7-0 record in the BIG EAST.
