The 21st-ranked University of Notre Dame men’s swimming and diving team cruised to victory at the 2004 ND Invitational, claiming the team title with 2,709.5 points at the Rolfs Aquatic Center on Saturday night. After seizing control of the meet on Thursday, the Irish never looked back and tacked on seven victories in seven events on Saturday evening.

Sophomore Tim Kegleman, who was spectacular in the pool all weekend, nabbed his second NCAA qualification time of the meet in 200 butterfly, touching the wall in a meet and pool record 1:47.53. Kegelman also won the 100 butterfly and 200 IM during the meet (the 200 IM in pool and meet record time).

Freshman diver Sam Stoner moved up from second in three-meter diving on Thursday to finish first off the one-meter board on Saturday. Stoner took first place with 273.80 points, with sophomore Scott Coyle (who won the three-meter event) in third place with 265.80 points.

Senior Frank Krakowski had a great day as well, winning the 100 freestyle and helping the 400-yard freestyle relay team cap off the meet with a victory. Krakowski just out-touched teammate and sophomore Louis Cavadini in the 100 fly, as Krakowski ended with 45.72 while Cavadini was right there at 45.76.

The two swimmers also joined teammates junior Tim Randolph and Kegelman on the first-place 400 freestyle relay team (3:01.75).

Other winners for the Irish on Saturday included sophomore Chris Zeches in the 1,650 freestyle, finishing a mile of swimming in 15:42.65. Junior Doug Bauman won the 200 backstroke to go along with his 100 back win earlier in the meet, but Bauman (1:49.53) was challenged by sophomore Alan Carter in second place (1:49.54).

The Irish also finished one-two in the 200 breaststroke, as freshman Graham Parker placed first in 2:04.42, followed by senior David Moisan in 2:05.60.
