Men's Swimming And Diving Rebounds For First Dual Meet Victory Of The Year At West Virginia

The Notre Dame men’s swimming and diving team (1-1) rebounded from a loss at Virginia Tech on Thursday, Oct. 19, to defeat West Virginia in a dual meet 137-104 in Morgantown, Friday night. The Irish diving contingent continued to shine. After winning both the one- and three-meter events at Virginia Tech the night before, Andy Maggio (Cincinnati, Ohio) repeated in the one-meter event versus the Mountaineers. Irish senior Herb Huesman (Cincinnati, Ohio) won the three-meter diving competition.

On the swimming side, Notre Dame captured first in five of the 11 swimming competitions. Freshman Matt Obringer (Jacksonville, Fla.), who won the 200 freestyle at Virginia Tech, captured the 1,000 freestyle (9:54.72) on this night. Ryan Verlin (Rye, N.Y.) captured his second 200 butterfly race of the season in 1:54.01. Junior David Horak (Dumfries, Va.) won the 200 backstroke in 1:54.88, Jonathan Pierce (Newburgh, Ind.) took the 500 freestyle in 2:02.40 and Dan Szilier (Norristown, Pa.) won his second 200 breaststroke race of the season (2:10.78).

Notre Dame will return home for a meet with Kalamazoo, Friday, Oct. 27.
