NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s swimming team (4-4) defeated Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 145.5-91.5, late Friday night in its final tuneup before the BIG EAST Championships, Feb. 25-27.
The Irish won nine of the 11 swimming events, while Wisconsin-Milwaukee picked up wins in one and three-meter diving, as well as the 200 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay.
Notre Dame was led by double-event winner Rob Fetter (Lakeland, Fla.) who claimed first place in both the 200 individual medley (1:55.80) and the 100 freestyle (47.41). Other highlights for the Irish included first through third place sweeps in the 1000 freestyle, 200 individual medley and the 200 backstroke. Irish freshman Jonathan Pierce (Newburgh, Ind.) also had a good performance in the 1000 freestyle, beating teammate Dan Szilier (Norristown, Pa.) by almost 30 seconds en route to the win.
Notre Dame’s next meet will be the BIG EAST Conference Championships held this year in Uniondale, N.Y., Feb. 25-27. The Irish will be looking to improve on their fourth place finish from a year ago.
