JAMAICA, N.Y. – The Notre Dame Fighting Irish fencing team went a combined 8-2 during last Saturday’s St. John’s Super Cup. Both the men’s and women’s team went 4-1, with the top-ranked men’s team taking first and the second-ranked women’s team finishing tied for first. The women however did knock off top ranked Columbia Saturday to close out the day.

Three Irish men posted double-digit wins on the day. Ziyuan Chen went 11-2 in foil, while Grant Dodrill (11-4), Ahmed Hesham (12-3) and Radu Nitu (10-5) all dominated in sabre. On the day, Dodrill, who was named a team captain earlier this week, surpassed 100 career victories at Notre Dame.
On the women’s side, Lola Possick posted an 11-4 overall record in sabre, while Siobhan Sullivan went 9-6 in sabre as well. Magda Skarbonkiewicz finished with five wins at sabre, pushing her season total to 19, a team-high.
Notre Dame returns to the strips this weekend to host the Michael DeCicco Duals on Saturday, January 24th and Sunday, January 25th at the Castellan Family Fencing Center inside the North Dome at the Joyce Center. Competition begins Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
