NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Fighting Irish men’s tennis team, ranked 11th in the nation, completed the sweep of their Friday matches with a 7-0 victory over in-state rivals, Ball State.
The win improves their record to 8-1 while ends their six game homestand with a 5-1 record.
Doubles
The evening match began with Guillermo Cabrera and William Howells winning their second doubles match of the night, this time 6-2 before Daniel Rayl and Johnathan Small clinched the doubles point for the team with a 6-2 win on court three.
Singles
Five courts finished in straight sets for the Irish in singles, with Paul Gota leading the charge, finishing first by a two set score of 6-1, 6-2. Matthew Gamble completed his match second, finishing off court two with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
For the second straight match, Grayson Broadus tallied the game-winning point for Notre Dame, earning the fourth point of the evening with his 6-3 and 6-4 set wins.
Rayl won his first singles match of the season by a score of 6-3, 7-6 while Nathan Griffin completed the straight set sweep for the Irish with a 7-5 victory in the second, having won his first set 6-1.
Guillermo Cabrera fought back to complete the Irish sweep after dropping his first set 4-6. Battling back to a 6-1 win in the second, Cabrera earned the tie break win with a 10-6 final score.

The Irish will return to the court next week in Chicago, Illinois as they compete at the ITA National Indoors for the second consecutive year.
