Upon receiving word that at least two former Notre Dame basketball players living in the New Orleans area had been severely affected by Hurricane Katrina – and in keeping with the club’s tradition of helping its own – the Monogram Club board has established the Catastrophic Relief Fund (CRF). The CRF is a need-based fund intended to help former monogram winners faced with catastrophic problems of health and/or financial hardship. It will be managed by the club’s board and senior leadership team in conjunction with the University’s investment office. Eligible recipients will be selected through an application and review process that ascertains an urgent need for medical attention, food, clothing, shelter and other life necessities.
If you would like to make a donation to the CRF, you can send a check, payable to the Notre Dame Monogram Club, directly to: Notre Dame Monogram Club; Joyce Center; Notre Dame, IN 46556; Attn: Catastrophic Relief Fund. For information on the fund – including how to apply for assistance – contact Monogram Club executive director Jim Fraleigh at fraleigh.1@nd.edu or (574) 631-5450.
In the same spirit, the Monogram Club board also recently decided to make a matching donation of $5,000 towards Notre Dame’s Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, when some individual board members announced their intentions to make personal contributions to the cause. As a result, a total of $10,000 was presented on behalf of the Monogram Club and its members to university president Rev. John I. Jenkins to assist those affected by Hurricane Katrina.
