SOUTH BEND, Ind. – USA Hockey has announced the 2024 U.S. National Junior Team preliminary roster which features Notre Dame rookie forward Danny Nelson following his standout first semester with the Irish.
The Maple Grove, Minnesota, native currently ranks second on the team in points thus far in 2023-24, boasting three goals and 11 assists for 14 points.
His 14 points also ranks among the nation’s best rookies and is fifth in the Big Ten Conference among all first-year skaters.
Most recently, Nelson helped lift the Irish to a 6-1 victory over arch rival Michigan with the third multi-point game of his young collegiate career. After assisting on a goal late in the second period to give Notre Dame the 4-1 lead, Nelson closed out the scoring in game one against the Wolverines with an unassisted tally in the final minute of regulation.
Following the team’s upcoming series at Michigan State, Nelson will depart for Plymouth, Michigan for Team USA’s training camp December 14-16. The final roster will be announced at the conclusion of camp with the 25 selected participants departing for Sweden ahead of the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championships set for December 26-January 5 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
