Irish head coach Bob Davie named sophomore Carlyle Holiday as the starter for Saturday’s game against Texas A&M.
The sophomore played in the previous two games against Nebraska as well as Michigan State but did not start either of the two games. He has completed six passes out of nine attempts for 46 yards.
“We spent a lot of time, the coaches, looking at our situation and evaluating everything,” Davie said. “The bottom line is that we are just not generating enough points.”
While Holiday will start, Davie pointed out that it does not mean that sophomore Matt LoVecchio will not get an opportunity to play.
“I thought that Matt played good at times on Saturday,” the head coach said. “He has done some great things for us over the past year and he is going to continue to good things for us this year.”
Davie believes that Holiday could be just the spark that the Notre Dame offense needs.
GIVING CONTINUES
The football team made an extra stop on their way to the locker room today after practice. All members stopped to sign a card for the victims of the September 11 tragedy.
Eleven year-old Joey Rapalski came to practice with a large homemade card that said, “God Bless America.”
He, along with the help of his mother, plans on sending it to New York after all the members of the team sign it.
