HOMESTAND CONTINUES WITH TOP SHOWDOWN VERSUS SIXTH-RANKED WEST VIRGINIA – The top-ranked Notre Dame women’s soccer team (9-0-0) resumes its five-game homestand with a BIG EAST Conference cross-divisional showdown versus a West Virginia team that is 8-0-2 and ranked as high as sixth in the nation (per the NSCAA coaches association), with the game set for Friday night, Sept. 29, at Alumni Field (7:30 EDT) … West Virginia (+32; 36-4) leads the nation in scoring margin while Notre Dame is second at +28 (30-2), with the Irish ranking second in goals-against average (0.22) and fourth in scoring (3.33 goals per game; WVU is first at 3.60) … the Irish are riding a 528-minute shutout streak and have scored 17 straight unanswered goals (since Santa Clara claimed an early lead in that Sept. 3 showdown of top-ranked teams) … ND has racked up 80 second-half goals (2.4/gm) spanning the 2005 and ’06 seasons (22-0 in ’06) … ND owns the second-longest scoring streak (45 games) in the program’s history, with a 168-22 scoring margin in the streak … the Irish own the fourth-longest home unbeaten streak (32; 31-0-1, with 23 straight wins) in Division I women’s soccer history and have not lost a home game to a BIG EAST opponent since the middle of the 1995 season (66-0-1) … Notre Dame will play the third game in the homestand on Sunday versus Pittsburgh (Oct. 1; 1:00).
