Irish Track and Field Start Spring with Success at Indiana Opener

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Notre Dame track and field teams started the spring off on a high note, finding success in multiple events at the Indiana Opener Saturday.

Senior Mary Saxer won the women’s pole vault event with a mark of 4.00m. Sophomores Kelly Langhans and Natalie Johnson finished 1-2 in the women’s 600m dash with times of 1:33.47 and 1:34.65, respectively. Freshman Jordan Rincon and senior Billy Buzaid took the top two spots in the men’s 600m dash, finishing in 1:20.06 and 1:20.46, respectively.

Women’s 200m: Joanna Schultz finished third with a time of 25.10, while Kali Watkins was 26th in 26.99.

Women’s 400m: Schultz clocked in at 56.29 to finish fifth.

Women’s 600m: Behind Langhans and Johnson, Allison Schroeder finished seventh in 1:36.76.

Women’s 800m: Elizabeth Myers finished fourth with a time of 2:15.76.

Women’s 60m Hurdles: Watkins crossed the line in 9.00 to finish seventh.

Women’s High Jump: Maddie Buttinger jumped 1.70m to finish fourth.

Women’s Pole Vault: Behind Saxer in first, Ann Polcari finished 15th with a mark of 3.35m.

Women’s Shot Put: Anna Weber finished seventh with a toss of 14.00m, while Buttinger placed 21st with a throw of 10.31m.

Women’s Weight Throw: Weber cleared 19.18m to finish second, just .50m out of first.

Men’s 200m: Chandler Brooks finished 10th with a time of 22.86. Sean Lindbloom edged out Sean Reed to finish 20th in 23.44. Reed finished 24th in 23.75.

Men’s 400m: Alex Korenstra finished seventh with a time of 50.80, while Reed clocked in at 54.06 to finish 15th.

Men’s 800m: Justin Schneider finished fourth with a time of 1:56.81.

Men’s Pole Vault: Matt Schipper edged out Kevin Schipper to finish fourth with a mark of 4.90m. Kevin finished tied for seventh with a vault of 4.70m. Andrew Kolbeck finished 12th, clearing 4.25m.

Men’s Long Jump: Eric Quick grabbed the second spot with a jump of 7.13m. Schneider finished 14th with a mark of 5.26m.

Men’s Shot Put: Denes Veres finished fourth with a throw of 16.58m. Andrew Hills recorded a mark of 15.80m to finish seventh. Schneider was 14th with a toss of 11.90m.

Men’s Weight Throw: Mitchell Gormley finished 10th with a throw of 16.65m. Veres was 13th with a mark of 15.27m, and Hills notched a throw of 14.00m to finish 18th.

The Irish return to the Loftus Center next week to host the Notre Dame Indoor Opener Friday evening.
