Notre Dame Head Coach Mike Brey

Opening Statement…
“I thought that we came out focused. After exams you’re typically concerned a little bit. I thought that we did a good job of not letting them get going on the three point line especially (Bryan) Dougher. It’s fun to watch this team play. If you really know basketball, you like this team.”

On Carleton Scott’s recent surge… “I think the opposing team is always going to have a difficult matchup with him (Scott) because their four guy is going to have chase him on the perimeter a lot. We also have done a good job screening for him as of late too. He has been very efficient and confident lately as well as taking good shots.”

On Ben Hansbrough “He is unbelievable at finding open shooters. I don’t think I have had a better player at finding open shooters. At times early in the year he was finding guys that weren’t particularly shooting the ball well. Now he’s finding everybody and takes a lot of pride in finding these open guys. He is just so strong in traffic whereas most guys would maybe turn the ball over. Ben (Hansbrough) uses his strength to get it out to guys.”

On Abromaitis’ improved rebounding this season… “I think it has been concentration. It has certainly been a key for us, as a team, with Abromaitis getting those extra rebounds. I think there were times that he focused on rebounding last year, but I think we need it from him more this year. When we rebound we like to run. We went through that stretch at the end of the first half where we were getting defensive rebounds and just running. We seem to make pretty good decisions in transition.”

Stony Brook Head Coach Steve Pikiell

Opening Statement…
“Notre Dame is a terrific team. After watching tape, I knew we were going to have trouble at times. They (Notre Dame) can all shoot the ball, which is unique. We needed to hold them in the 60’s because that’s what we typically score. They are a smart and well-coached basketball team. I think Notre Dame is going to have a great year.”

On Carlton Scott…
“He (Carlton Scott) is a tough guard for us because he is a lot bigger than us. We’re used to guys with that size playing a little more around the basket. He got going early today. But when he’s on, he’s as good as anyone out there. We tried to limit his touches around the basket, but then Abromitis makes a cut and gets open or Hansbrough gets in the lane and makes a play.”

On Notre Dame…
“I don’t know what you take away from this game. They have shooters at every position and are mostly veterans. They’re all good passers and very unselfish, which is a credit to Coach Brey. They really know how to score. I just hope that we don’t face an offensive team like this again. Most teams have a weakness somewhere, but this team has the complete package. They don’t foul and have averaged low foul numbers all season. Notre Dame is a very good basketball team.”
