CLEMSON, S.C. — With a schedule comprised of mostly preliminary events, the Notre Dame track and field team finished day two of the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships strong. In Friday’s last event, Nick Happe wrapped brought home a gold medal in the 5,000m run with a time of 14:03.92. His performance brought the men to fourth place with 32 points, while the women are currently in 10th place with nine points.
Following through with his promising start to the men’s heptathlon yesterday, Ted Glasnow finished with a third-place score of 5,459. He and Happe both earned all-ACC Honors.
The majority of the action of the championships will be seen tomorrow, in the finals of no fewer than 22 events. Notre Dame had several athletes qualify for the finals in their preliminary events today, promising more points for the Irish tomorrow.
Jade (8.31) and Kaila Barber (8.36) each won their heat of the preliminary 60m hurdles, qualifying them for the finals tomorrow. In the mile, J.P. Malette qualified on the men’s side with a preliminary time of 4:09.05 while two runners qualified on the women’s side–both Kelly Curran (4:47.34) and Alexa Aragon (4:46.82) will be competing in the finals. Aragon ran all the way back from an early stumble to still qualify in the race.
In the 400m dash, both Michelle Brown (54.93) and Margaret Bamgbose (54.06) made it through for the Notre Dame women, while Chris Giesting (47.20) and Patrick Feeney (47.62) will both be competing in the finals for the men.
Aijah Urssery will be running in the finals of the 60m dash for the women tomorrow after finishing with a time of 7.53 in the preliminaries. On the men’s side, Josh Atkinson qualified with a time of 6.80.
Danielle Aragon (2:09.41) will compete in the finals of the women’s 800m, while Brown (24.63) and Bamgbose (24.49) repeated their qualifying performances of the 400m by again qualifying together for the 200m. Giesting will also be running in the finals of the 200m for the men after running the prelims in 21.45.
On the field side of things, Jordan Stumph finished in fifth place of the men’s weight throw (18.88m), and Keith Mesidor finished seventh in the long jump with a leap of 7.27m.
Action on the third and final day of the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships begins at noon tomorrow.
