AUSTIN and SAN MARCOS, Texas — The University of Notre Dame track & field program continued competition at the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas on Friday. The Irish also opened competition at the Bobcat Invitational at nearby Texas State University with a pair of student-athletes competing in throwing events.
Senior Carly Loeffel kicked off the outdoor season in style in the heptathlon, scoring 5396 points. Her performance was good for sixth (of 16) and included a fourth-place showing in the javelin throw (37.02 meters).
The Irish women’s 4×800-meter relay group consisting of Samantha Murray, Alex Daugherty, Ashlyn Rambo and Jamie Marvil placed fifth among 14 entries with a time of 8:58.89. The men’s quartet of Andrew Stone, Grant Koch, Kirk Hansen and Patrick O’Connell took eighth place of 16 in 7:45.96.
At Texas State, Lena Madison placed 21st of 35 in the discus (39.05 meters) and Anthony Shivers placed 11th of 36 (49.53 meters) in the men’s field.
