OVERVIEW
— After missing out last season, Notre Dame returns to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last four seasons and for the eighth time in program history.
— The Irish are 6-7-0 all-time in NCAA play (6-6-0 under Jeff Jackson).
— Notre Dame and Michigan resume their rivalry for the 135th all-time meeting and for the first time since the 2012-13 season, when Notre Dame went 5-0-0 against the Wolverines.
— Notre Dame and Michigan have met once previously in NCAA play: a 5-4 overtime win by the Irish in the 2008 national semifinal.
THE SERIES VS. MICHIGAN
— Former CCHA rivals, Michigan and Notre Dame have played 134 times with Michigan leading the all-time series 73-56-5.
— Notre Dame recognizes the first official meeting as a 3-2 overtime win by the Fighting Irish on Jan. 17, 1922 at the Weinberg Coliseum in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
— The teams’ most recent meetings came during the 2012-13 season when Notre Dame went 5-0-0 against the Wolverines, including a 3-1 victory in the championship game of the CCHA tournament.
— The CCHA championship game victory by the Irish ended the Wolverines’ season (current senior goaltender Steve Racine was the starter in that game for Michigan).
— Notre Dame and Michigan’s only other meeting in the NCAA Tournament came at the 2008 Frozen Four (Denver, Colorado) when the Irish posted a 5-4 overtime win to advance to the NCAA championship game for the first time in program history.
— Calle Ridderwall scored the game-winning goal in that contest at the 5:44 mark of overtime.
— Ben Ryan, the older brother of current Fighting Irish defenseman Andy Ryan, played in that national semifinal win over the Wolverines.
— The Irish and Wolverines met each season from 1991-92 to 2012-13.
— Head Coach Jeff Jackson is 27-25-1 all-time against Michigan (including his time at Lake Superior State), while he is 9-5-0 all-time against the Wolverines in the playoffs.
AGAINST THE TOURNAMENT FIELD
— The Irish have played 17 games this season against teams in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
— Notre Dames is 3-8-6 on the season in those 17 games, including wins over Northeastern (Nov. 12), Boston College (Dec. 10) and Boston University (Feb. 27).
