NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Competition finished Saturday at the Stanford Invitaitonal, with multiple University of Notre Dame track and field athletes competing throughout the day. Lena Madison and Indi Jackson both earned top-10 finishes in the field events, while Patrick O’Connell finished sixth in the 800m.

“Patrick’s time is a personal best – which is a good start for him,” head coach Alan Turner said. “He should break 1:50, which should score points at the ACC meet and qualify him for the NCAA Regional meet later in the year.”

O’Connell, who finished the race in 1:50.22, also ran with Kirk Hansen, who finished 35th (1:52.64). On the women’s team, Jessica Harris had the top time in the 800 race (2:06.82), finishing 12th, and was followed by Danielle Aragon (2:08.05), Jamie Marvil (2:10.15) and Stephanie Knight (2:11.42).

In the field events, Indi Jackson led a trio of Irish student-athletes in the discus throw, finishing 10th (42.63m). Lena Madison came in 11th (41.44m) and Alexa Coubal, 12th (39.92m).

“Indi opened up her outdoor season very well,” Turner commented, “with a personal best and taking the victory in the shot put. I hope she uses this experience to spur her to bigger and better performances. She was disappointed that she didn’t score in the shot put at the ACC Indoor Championships this year. She is off to a good start and on her way to scoring in the ACC and qualifying for the NCAA East Regional.”

Madison also earned a top-10 placement throwing in the women’s hammer throw, placing seventh on the merit of her 51.65m performance.

Notre Dame will take to the road again April 8-9, to compete in the Sun Angel Track Classic at Arizona State.
