NOTRE DAME, Ind — With two weekends left in the regular season, the University of Notre Dame’s track and field team came out to fight. Splitting the team between two coasts, three men traveled to the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California while a majority of the team headed east to Charlottesville, Virginia for the Virginia Classic.
Virginia Challenge
Senior Jessica Harris highlighted the meet for the Irish, recording the nation’s best women’s 1500m time with her first place finish of 4:13.04.
Andrew Delvecchio also won an event for the Irish as he crossed the finish with a 1500m time of 3:56.97 through the morning heats.
To conclude the weekend meet, Rachel Tanczos broke her own school record in the hammer throw, recording a second place mark of 64.28m on her fifth attempt.
Bryan Clay Invitational
The first meet of the week, the Irish sent Andrew Alexander, Dylan Jacobs and Yared Nuguse to the West Coast to represent the Irish on the campus of Azusa Pacific University.
Alexander opened the competition with a personal best performance in the 5K, crossing the line in 14:04.04 and 13th overall.
On the final day of competition in California, Jacobs and Nuguse both recorded career best runs in the 1500m race. Nuguse led the Irish throughout the race, clocking in the third fastest time in the nation thus far in 2019 and third overall with a time of 3:38.32. Jacobs followed up with a personal best run of his own in 3:46.54.

The Irish will return to Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Virginia in a few weeks for the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships (May 9-11).
Prior to that, the team has four regular season meets remaining on their schedule, beginning with the Penn Relays, Jesse Owens Invitational and Gina Relays next weekend.
