Emma Albrecht Selected To NCAA East Lansing Regional

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame women’s golf senior Emma Albrecht is set to make her fourth career NCAA Regional appearance after being selected on Wednesday to compete at the 2019 NCAA East Lansing Regional at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan, hosted by Michigan State University and the Greater Lansing Sports Authority. Albrecht was one of 24 golfers to earn individual bids to NCAA Regional sites, as announced during the championship selection show on the Golf Channel.

A total of 72 teams joined those qualifying individuals at one of four NCAA Regional sites that will be contested from May 6-8, of which 24 teams and 12 individuals will advance to the national championship tournament on May 17-22 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Other NCAA Regional sites include Tumble Creek Golf Club in Cle Elum, Washington, hosted by the University of Washington; Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma, hosted by the University of Oklahoma; and Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika, Alabama, hosted by Auburn University.

Albrecht is only the second Notre Dame player to qualify individually for an NCAA Regional since 2004, joining Noriko Nakazaki in 2007 (tied for 18th place at the NCAA Central Regional in Ann Arbor, Michigan; 72-73-79=224). In her only prior collegiate appearance at Forest Akers West Golf Course, the 2015 Mary Fossum Invitational, Albrecht finished in a tie for ninth place while competing as an individual (80-72-73=225) as the Fighting Irish defended the team tournament crown.

Albrecht tied for 13th place in her previous individual NCAA appearance at the 2017 NCAA Columbus Regional with a score of 224 (75-75-74). Only Nicole Zhang (tied for eighth place at the 2011 NCAA Central Regional at the Warren Golf Course; 71-78-74=223) has ever finished higher representing the Irish at a regional site.

Alongside the full Notre Dame team in her most recent NCAA start last season at the 2018 NCAA Madison Regional, Albrecht posted a postseason career-best tie for 11th place with a three-round total of 1-under-par 215 (73-75-67).

Albrecht has enjoyed a stellar senior campaign for the Irish in 2018-19, posting a team-best 72.69 stroke average over 26 total rounds. She has fired a total of 13 rounds that finished at par or better, including eight such rounds under par (three rounds in the 60s).

Albrecht logged seven top-25 finishes over her first nine starts this season, which included a tie for fourth place at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational (70-71-72=213) and a share of second place at the Westbrook Invitational (70-68-70=208). She also carded seven straight rounds at par or better spanning from the third round of the Minnesota Invitational through the third round of the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational last fall.

A decorated four-year starter at Notre Dame, Albrecht’s 73.30 career stroke average (117 rounds played) is an Irish program best. She has also contributed one co-medalist finish (2017 Bettie Lou Evans Invitational), four top-five results and eight top-10 placements over the course of 40 official starts. On 21 different occasions Albrecht has been the top Irish finisher in a tournament, trailing only Nakazaki’s 23 team-leading performances from 2003-07 as tops for a Notre Dame career.
