Irish Finish Third at Inverness Intercollegiate

TOLEDO, Ohio – After back-to-back tournament titles were claimed to start the season, the Notre Dame men’s golf team secured a top-three podium finish on Tuesday at the Inverness Intercollegiate. The Fighting Irish shot an 865 (+13), just one stroke shy of Tennessee in second. Texas Tech utilized a 12-under final round tally to claim the top spot with an 856 (+4).

The Inverness Intercollegiate featured a strong 15-team field comprised of eight power-five teams (four from the SEC and three from the Big Ten).

Davis Lamb, who shot one-under over the second round to climb 23 spots in the standings, shot two-under on Tuesday, climbing seven more spots to tie for fourth place with a 214 (+1). The fourth place showing marks a career best for the senior when competing in a tournament with a 10+ team field.

“You know you have a great team when we are unhappy with a third-place finish in an elite field,” Notre Dame head coach John Handrigan stated. “I’m proud of this team for playing to win today, and I have a good feeling that we will be back in the winner’s circle soon.”

FINAL ROUND

Notre Dame shot a 286 (+2) over the final round to secure their third consecutive top-three finish. Lamb led the Irish with a 69 (-2) on Tuesday, in a round which saw the senior record four birdies over a six-hole span on the back-nine.

Hunter Ostrom finished in the top-10 for the third straight tournament, continuing his hot start to the season. The senior went two-under on the front and notched eight straight pars on the back, before a double-bogey on the 18^th spoiled his round down to an even-par 71.

Palmer Jackson continued this consistent play, contributing a 72 (+1) to the final round team score. Jackson tied for 11^th place with a 216 (+3).

Lastly, both Davis Chatfield and Andrew O’Leary carded 74’s (+3) on Tuesday. Chatfield tied for 32^nd with a 221 (+8), while O’Leary tied for 40^th with a 223 (+10).
