SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame swimming and diving team had two members named to the USA Swimming Junior National Team this week in freshmen Madelyn Christman and Josh Brown.

Brown qualified for the team in the 10k following his performance at the 2021 10K Open Water Invitational in Las Vegas on October 9. He finished eighth in the 10k Elite men’s event with a time of 1:45:05.37 and was the best available men’s finisher of the pool of athletes that could qualify for the Junior National Team.

Christman earned her spot on the team after her performance at the Speedo Summer Championships this past August. She swam a 2:11.25 in the long course 200 meter backstroke and that time clinched her a spot on the Junior National Team.

Both Brown and Christman competed in their first collegiate meet for the Irish this past weekend. Christman led the women’s squad with a team-high five wins over the weekend, including the eighth-best time in program history in the 200 backstroke (1:56.80). Brown picked up a win in the 1000 free with a time of 9:23.29.

The pair and the Irish will be back in the pool this weekend against in-state foe Purdue at the Rolfs Aquatic Center. The one day meet kicks off on Friday, October 22 at 5 p.m. ET. Admission is free for all home meets this season.
