LAST TIME OUT
The University of Notre Dame swimming and diving team opened the season with a weekend sweep over Pittsburgh and Cleveland State at the Rolfs Aquatic Center. The men’s team defeated Pitt 200.5-152.5 and Cleveland State 162-92. The 25th-ranked women’s team took down Pitt by a score of 271-82 and defeated Cleveland State 300-52. The Irish won a total of 31 of the 38 events over the course of the weekend with the women winning 17 events and the men with 14 wins.
In his first collegiate meet, freshman Chris Guiliano led the men’s squad with six victories on the weekend. He was part of relay wins in the 200 free (1:21.88), 400 free (2:59.21), 200 medley (1:29.26), 400 medley (3:15.27) and picked up individual wins in the 100 free (45.25) and the 50 free (20.65).
The women also had a pair of freshmen led the way with five victories each for Madelyn Christman and Jessica Geriane. The pair were both on the winning relay teams in the 200 medley (1:41.72), 200 free (1:32.69) and 400 free (3:25.12). Christman earned individual wins in the 200 back (1:56.80) and 200 IM (2:04.22). Christman’s time in the 200 back ranks eighth all-time in program history. Geriane also got a win in the 400 medley relay (3:43.09) and the 50 free (23.64).
On the diving board, graduate student Kelly Straub swept both her events this weekend with a 347.55 score in the 3-meter diving and a 325.25 score in the 1-meter diving. She was named the ACC Women’s Diver of the Week following her performance on the weekend.
