SOUTH BEND, Ind. — University of Notre Dame offensive lineman Joe Alt has been named to the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award Watch List Tuesday afternoon. The award recognizes the most outstanding freshman player in college football.
Alt has played in all nine games this season, starting each of the last four games at left tackle. The Irish have had their most successful games on the ground over the last four games, with Alt in the starting lineup. They have rushed for over 150 yards as a team in each of the four games, and have tallied three rushing touchdowns each of the last three.
Alt helped pave the way for running back Kyren Williams to rush for a career-high 199 yards in the win over North Carolina as the Irish rushed for 293 yards as a team. It marked the most rushing yards by an Irish player since Dexter Williams had 202 in 2018 and the most rushing yards by the team since Florida State in 2020.
