Straub Set to Compete at US Diving Winter Nationals

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — University of Notre Dame diver Kelly Straub is set to compete at the 2021 US Winter National Championships this week in Bloomington, Indiana. Straub is scheduled to compete in the 3-meter and 1-meter diving events to qualify for the upcoming World University Games and FINA World Championships.

Straub’s first event will be this Thursday, December 16th in the Senior 1-Meter diving event. The prelims, quarterfinals and finals will all be held during the day on Thursday. Her next event will be on Friday, December 17 in the Senior 3-Meter diving. Similar to the 1–meter event, the prelims, quarterfinals and finals will all be held throughout the day on Friday.

So far this season, Straub has won the 3-meter diving and 1-meter diving events at two of her three meets this fall. Her best 3-meter diving score came against Pittsburgh and Cleveland State when she won with a score of 347.35. Her best 1-meter diving score also came against Cleveland State and Pittsburgh with a score of 325.25.

The top two qualified divers with the highest scores from both events will be selected to Team USA for the World University Games and FINA World Championships. The 2022 FINA World Championships will be held on May 13-20, 2022 in Fukuoka, Japan. The World University Games will be held on June 26-July 7 in Chengdu, China.
