TAMPA, Fla. — While in Florida for an annual post-Christmas training trip, Notre Dame men’s swimming and diving took a break from practices to face off against Tampa and Minnesota and earned two wins. The Irish (3-3) beat the Spartans, 174-88, and topped the Gophers, 145-117.

Notre Dame earned wins in nine events on Saturday afternoon, including two relays. The team of Zack Oswald, Jack Armour, Marcus Reyes-Gentry and Shane Eckler started off the meet winning the 200 medley relay (1:26.89) and Eckler, Min-Gyo Jang, Reyes-Gentry and Tommy Janton capped off the relays by winning the 200 free relay (1:20.11).

A pair of freshman stood out individually, as Armour and Eckler won two events each. Armour paced the field in the 100 and 200 breast (54.65/1:57.67), and Eckler won the 50 and 100 free (19.91/44.42).

The other three event wins came from sophomore Jeremy Kelly in the 200 free (1:37.91), Reyes-Gentry in the 100 back (46.22) and Oswald in the 200 back (1:46.78).

The Irish backstroke contingent continues to perform well, as Notre Dame took 1-2-3 in the 100 back with Reyes Gentry, Janton (47.39) and Oswald (48.31).

Up next, Notre Dame will head to Lexington to face Kentucky and Purdue in a tri-meet on Jan. 9.
