ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA –  The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team completed their second tournament of the spring season in Georgia this week at the Sea Island Resort with a sixth-place overall team finish and a score of 829 (-35) at the annual Johnnie-O at Sea Island event. Nate Stevens highlighted the weekend for the Irish, finishing the tourney 12 strokes under par. 

Through the two day tournament, Stevens finished the tournament with a final score of 204 (-12). Opening the first round with five birdies and a scorecard of 67 (-5) the senior ended the second round of the day with a score of 71 (-1). Finishing the final 18 holes with six birdies, three on each nine, Stevens’ 66 (-6) for a team best sixth-place finish as he jumped up 10 spots in the individual rankings on the final day. 

Jacob Modleski tallied a ninth-place finish to claim second best for the Irish to start the week. The junior opened the tournament with a round of 67 (-5) through the first 18 holes and in the second round tallied two eagles on the back nine to end with a score of 65 (-7). Hitting the links for the third and final round, Modleski wrapped up his tournament with three birdies to notch a third score of 73 (+1). 

Liam Pasternak finished the early spring break tournament with a score of 212 (-4), tied for 39th overall in the field. The freshman posted an opening round bulletin of 73 (+1) with three birdies on the back nine. Pasternak improved as the tournament progressed posting scores of 70 (-2) and 69 (-3) across the final 36 holes. 

Mike Qiu tied for 45th in the tournament posting a score of 214 (-2). The sophomore posted an opening round of 71 (-1) with four birdies across the front and back nines of the Plantation course at Sea Island Resort. Qiu then shot a 72 (E) and 71 (-1), respectively ,across the second and third rounds of the tournament for the minus-two finish. 

Calen Sanderson rounded out the field of Irish golfers in Georgia. The senior posted an overall score of 217 (+1) at the annual event. His first round was a 68 (-4) with four birdies before following it up with a second round score of 71 (-1) to close out the first two rounds. Sanderson’s final scorecard of the tournament was a 78 (+6) to close out things for Notre Dame in Georgia.

The Irish hit the links again on March 13-15 as they are slated to compete at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Georgia hosted by Georgia Southern.
