SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Offensive lineman Will Black has been named to the 2026 Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award Watch List, which honors the top freshman player in college football.
A native of London, Ontario, Canada appeared in three games last year, making his collegiate debut in the win over Navy last November. In the victory, Black helped the Irish record over 500 yards of total offense, including 249 yards on the ground, while not allowing a single sack.
Black is listed as a sophomore under the NCAA’s new five-for-five eligibility rule, which allows student-athletes to compete for up to five seasons within a five-year eligibility window. However, he remains eligible for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award under Maxwell Football Club guidelines.
