SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Freshman wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald has been named to the Hispanic College Football Player of the Year Award Watch List. The list recognizes 20 standout college football athletes of Hispanic heritage making an impact on and off the field this season.
It’s the second season of the award, which is presented by the Hispanic Football Hall of Fame. DL Gabriel Rubio represented the Irish on last season’s inaugural watch list.
Fitzgerald comes to South Bend following an illustrious career at Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix, Arizona. His 149 career receptions are tied for the most in school history, while his 2,125 yards and 26 touchdowns are both second all-time. He was a Navy All-American, Fiesta Bowl All-State and a two-time First Team All-Conference player during his prep days.
His dad, Larry Fitzgerald Jr., played 17 seasons in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals and has the second most receptions (1,432) and receiving yards (17,492) in NFL history.
