BERLIN — Notre Dame greats Sonia Citron and Jackie Young are 2026 FIBA World Cup champions.
On Sunday, the United States pulled away late to top France, 97-79, winning the fifth-consecutive gold medal for USA Basketball at the FIBA World Cup. Young stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, six rebounds and five assists and was named Finals Player of the Game.
Young was one of the United States' top players throughout the duration of the World Cup, scoring in double-figures in every game.
Citron played just a couple of minutes against France, but she saw action in all three games of group play and the quarterfinals against Hungary. Her best game came against the Czech Republic, where the first time National Team guard went 5-7 from the floor and finished with 10 points.
Citron (Washington Mystics) and Young (Las Vegas Aces) will now return to U.S. soil to finish out the WNBA season. Both teams have clinched playoff berths.
